Free radicals is one of the factors of aging that is talked about a lot and the Health Coaching team of Clínica CIME wants to explain it to you in a very simple way.
Remember that the human body is made up of different cells, which in turn are made up of different molecules. Those molecules consist of atoms that are joined by chemical bonds. The atom has protons (positive charge) and electrons (negative charge) that orbit around the atom. These electrons can cooperate with other atoms to achieve maximum stability.
These atoms are linked by bonds, we must know that if a weak bond is formed (which is where an electron remains without a partner), the free radical is formed. These free radicals are very unstable, so they react easily to find the necessary electron to achieve stability. If you steal an electron from another molecule, it will become unstable and become a free radical as well. In this way, a cascade of free radicals takes place, until they overwhelm a living cell.
Free radicals are formed in many processes in the body, for example by metabolism or by the immune system, to attack viruses and bacteria. However, there are environmental factors (pollution, cigarettes, poor diet) that increase the dose of free radicals in our body. The body manages naturally occurring free radicals, but excessive production of free radicals causes damage to the body.
90% of the signs of premature skin aging are caused by free radicals. People less exposed to excess free radicals will age later. But in addition, free radicals can cause: cardiovascular diseases, increase levels of bad cholesterol, develop the risk of cancer, in particular of the mouth, pharynx and esophagus. Free radicals are also involved in Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, arteriosclerosis, and diabetes.
To be able to stop the process of free radicals we have antioxidants. A good way to consume antioxidants is through diet. Maintaining an adequate consumption of foods with vitamins such as C and E and beta-carotene, since they are responsible for neutralizing free radicals, donating one of their electrons, and ending the chain of robberies.
Now we know what free radicals are and the enormous damage they can do to our bodies. Therefore, it is not only important to eat but also to take care of the lifestyle we lead.
It is very important to keep our diet in mind to take care of our health.
