Breast augmentation surgery usually generates multiple and diverse questions in our patients: types of prostheses, positioning of scars, where to place the prostheses, recovery time and possibility of breastfeeding after surgery, the latter question being especially decisive for some women.
The simplest answer is YES, however, like everything in medicine, things are not in black or white, but rather we move in gray scales: everything will depend on the surgical techniques we use.
If it is necessary to correct problems that involve cuts in the gland itself (tuberous breasts, sagging breasts or large asymmetries that require unilateral reductions), this could interfere with future breastfeeding.
My preferred approach to enable breastfeeding without problems is through the submammary groove, since in this way I avoid coming into contact with the gland, it does not alter its anatomy and also reduces the chances of a capsular contracture.
